The Conway House Project, started by members of the Cooper family, their friends, neighbors, and acquaintances, is a small group of people working with the Mississippi Katrina Fund, a 501C3 non-profit organization in Pass Christian, MS to raise money to build a new home for Arthur and Ceil Conway who's home in Pass Christian was destroyed by Hurricane Katrina. Our goal is to raise enough funds to start construction on the Conway's house in Fall 2006. Fundraising will continue after completion on the Conway's home to help as many other Pass Christian residents as possible. Some of the people behind this project: Asahel Cooper is a resident of Pass Christian, MS; Elizabeth Cooper now lives in Middletown Springs, VT; Lynne Cooper now lives in Washington, DC; Dan McKeen, of Green Mountain Timber Frames, lives in Middletown Springs, VT; Ann Dinwiddie Madden lives in Pass Christian and Washington, DC; Michael Beattie, Architect, lives in Middletown Springs, VT; Patrick Robinson lives in Darien, CT and Pawlet, VT; Jim Schmitt, Contractor, lives in Pass Christian, MS; Daniel Taylor, Architect, lives in Pass Christian, MS | ||||||||
| WHY ARE WE DOING THIS?: Arthur and Ceal Conway call Pass Christian, Mississippi their home. Hurricane Katrina destroyed their house, insurance does not cover their loss, and they do not have funds to rebuild. Arthur "Oodie" Conway, is know for his hard work, warm and generous way, good humor and good cookin'. He was once crowned "King" of the "Krewe of Real People" for raising the most funds for community charity. Ceal Conway, Arthur's wife, "since they were kids", is a reserved, warm-hearted person who has raised a bunch of children and grandchildren and worked until forced to go on medical disability. Building the Conways a new home is our way of giving direct support to two wonderful people that have always given their best to family, friends and community.
